Lecture capture lets students access lessons during long commutes

(Dulles, VA — May 21, 2008) - Central Wyoming College nursing students score better on their final exams thanks to lecture capture from Echo360, higher education’s first-choice for letting students relive the classroom experience on demand. Analyses of final exam scores at CWC found students accessing lecture podcasts created by Echo360 achieved an average 6.5 percent increase on their final exams compared to scores from the prior academic year.

Central Wyoming College introduced lecture capture technology in January of 2007 to better serve the nursing students at its two campuses in Riverton and Jackson, more than 170 miles apart.  Many of the students, who live in distant parts of Wyoming and eastern Idaho, are balancing careers and family while earning their nursing degree.  These students are able to take full advantage of long commutes by listening to recorded lectures, otherwise known as podcasts.

“We chose Echo360 because it complements our nursing curriculum and addresses the work-life needs of our non-traditional student population,” said Kathy Wells, MSN, RN, nursing program director at Central Wyoming College.  “Based on the positive impact we’ve seen on grades, we intend to enhance our podcast offering to include learning modules for students needing additional information on complex topics.”

At the conclusion of the class, the nursing lecture is available for replay within minutes. Students can access the lecture at any time by downloading an audio/visual or audio-only digital file.

“Lecture capture helps Central Wyoming College bypass regional challenges and is a true aide to the learning process,” said Mark Jones, president of Echo360. “This technology continues to provide positive results to both students and professors through its ease of use and accessibility.”
